Position
Director for Doctor Who, 1996
Geoffrey Sax knew he wanted to work in the entertainment industry from a very early age. He started out in theatre, working as a props man and assistant stage manager and then moved into television, working his way up from call boy to floor manager at ATV.
He began his prolific and successful directing career in the late 1970s in current affairs and news. This led to comedy shows, documentaries and dramas … both in the UK and America.
Geoffrey’s CV is extensive … but it’s as director of the 1996 pilot for a Doctor Who television series in America, starring Paul McGann, that fans most remember him for.
In this rare interview, Geoffrey chats to Robert Dick about his career and, what later became known as, The Doctor Who Movie!
